Microsoft might not be the only major mobile player that’s invading other mobile ecosystems, as Apple is also looking to build more mobile apps on platforms other than iOS, a recent job listing reveals.
Obviously, the motivation for each company is different. Microsoft was forced to bring some of its services to competing platforms, considering that it came in at a distant third in the smartphone race. Apple, on the other hand, has never been really interested in making certain versions of its apps available on Android.
The company currently has two Android apps in the making, including Move to iOS and the Apple Music. The latter is coming this fall, but a Beats Music app is already available on Android while Move to iOS should be available once iOS 9 arrives this fall.
A new job listing discovered by 9to5Mac says that Apple is “looking for engineers to help [it] bring exciting new mobile products to the Android platform.” It’s not clear at this point what Apple services the company wants to make available on Android, but it looks like the iPhone maker is certainly more open to creating mobile software for competing platforms.
The company has a bunch of applications that could have Android versions, including iMessage, Safari, or iTunes Store apps that would make more digital content available to Android users. However, the job ad that was posted online on Tuesday doesn’t offer any insight into what these engineers would do at Apple.
